EDIT: Good news! reminded me where I'd stuck that ancient first image I'd posted of Regal. I still can't find my wad of drafts, but that'll do. Give you an idea what I was first thinking of. [link]
One of my most dramatic character redesigns, I should think. I can't remember where I put the original wad of drafts for this character or even if I posted something on DA. However I can tell you that this character started as a rather Gandalf-like 'wise man' type but over time I started stepping away from this concept. Initially I injected a lot of Jedi Master style, then tried something almost Roman-esque.
I also altered the look of the Whispering Staff; I like surprising readers, and I think making an important and powerful magical artifact look simple and inconspicuous is a fun little tease.
In the end, I've settled with this.
Drawing old people is quite a challenge. There IS such a thing as adding too many age lines and ending with a miserable-looking human being. I enjoyed tinkering with this.
Why don't you take a crack at guessing what sort of person he is?
...and yes, I do enjoy giving characters unusual names.
